conceptual, metaphorical, or imaginary nature. These ships span history, from
the solar barge of ancient Egypt to Bas Jan Ader’s in search of the
miraculous. This drawing depicts the ship of fools, Das Narrenschiff.
Das
Narrenschiff (Nef des Fous, Ship of Fools) was the title of Sebastian Brant’s
15th century book, originally illustrated with woodcuts by Albrecht
Dürer and distributed as leaflets in the streets at the 1492 Carnaval de Bâle.
